Since
the 2024 Formula 1 season began with Lewis Hamilton landing a contract with Ferrari
next year thus beginning the silly season, there has been much speculation
about where former Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz will be in 2025.
The
Spaniard has supposedly been linked with several different teams, including
meetings with Alpine and Williams.
There was speculation that Sainz would join British driver George Russell with a contract secured at
Mercedes, however, with 17-year-old Mercedes Junior driver Kimi Antonelli currently
showing a promising pace in F2, winning in the downpour of the Silverstone
Sprint race, it’s likely this door has closed for Sainz.
So, where will Carlos go? Well, with Kevin Magnussen recently announcing
that he will be leaving Haas at the end of the this season it's possible that Sainz will have an oppurtunity to race alongside
future F1 rookie Oliver Bearman at the American team in 2025.
Another team with a vacant seat at the end of
the season is Alpine, leaving Esteban Ocon with no 2025 contract after the French driver had a collision with his teammate in Monaco.

Despite
these two relatively new vacant seats it seems that Sainz is likely have a
future at Williams next season. Williams team principal James Vowles has been
extremely open about his desire to have Sainz in a Williams car in 2025 saying,
“I personally think we’re the right option – it’s a good match made together”.
Although it seems that Sainz’s hesitance to decide has left Vowles fed up as he
recently hinted at their being a ‘timeline’ in which the current Ferrari driver
has to either accept or deny an offer.
Amongst
this mix of teams vying for a contract with Sainz is Kick Sauber, which will
become Audi in the 2026 season after a 100% takeover was announced in March.
Having already signed Nico Hulkenberg multi-year contract over the transition
they’re currently looking to snag an experienced driver such as Carlos to
complete their driver lineup.
It
seems that, despite Red Bull having already signed Sergio Perez for a
multi-year contract after the seasons end, there may still be a chance for
Sainz to accept a contract with the team should Perez’s streak of bad luck
continue.
With rumours that should Checo remain more than 100 points behind his
teammate, Max Verstappen, before the summer break he could potentially lose his
contract, opening the door for Sainz, should Red Bull team principal Christian
Horner decide to offer the Spaniard a contract.
With Sainz
in contact with all these teams in hopes of a contract it will undoubtedly be
stressful for the Ferrari driver. But without an answer soon it’s possible that
Sainz will miss the opportunity to secure a contract next year, leaving him
with no F1 seat for the 2025 season.
I believe we can all agree that it would
be a waste of talent to have Sainz out of a seat next year so hopefully the 29-year-old will take the time to come to a decision soon.
The
continuous speculation surrounding Carlos Sainz’s contract decision for 2025
has led to many possibilities for the Spaniard. All drivers out of contract at
the end of the 2024 season will be waiting in anticipation for Sainz to make a
decision and get the ball rolling for final contract decisions themselves.
Where do you think Carlos will go? Will he have a seat in 2025? Or will he squander
the opportunities he is given in the hopes of a better option and miss out
completely?
